Alan Ng

My Mission: I live to entertain the world with funny and insightful content.

One man, many paths. That’s the simplist way to describe my life.

Geographically, this Southern California native was born in Downtown Los Angeles, lived as a kid in South Central Los Angeles, raised in Palos Verdes, matured in Chinatown, pursued his college degree in East Los Angeles and lived as a fully developed man in Orange County.

Education. My dream since a child was to be creative. I performed classic SNL skits in elementary school. Recited from the script of Monty Python and the Holy Grail in High School. I also created a video about nuclear proliferation that included commercials from SCTV. Performed in front of church youth groups and congregations with witty and insightful sermons. I now use comedy to encourage the church to do the right thing.

Comedically. I studied improv comedy before it was a thing. My teachers included instructors from South Coast Repertory and honed at the National Comedy Theater. It was my tenure as a main stage player from 2001 to today that honed my quick witted improv skills.

Professionally. After pursuing my love of marketing and advertising in the financial field and then abruptly losing my job thanks to the real estate market crash. This aging hero-in-disguise is ready to conquer a world dominated by the young. I am now pursing a career telling stories for the internet, and soon television and movies. Watch out world, here I come…one shaky step at a time.

Today, I am the managing editor at Film Threat where you can read my reviews on a regular basis. I also have the privilege to have a Rotten Tomatoes page, just to look more professional than I really am.

  1. Hello Alan.

I contacted you a couple of months ago introducing you to our new YouTube channel dedicated to the demonstration of in-camera practical FX techniques that will entertain, educate and inspire professional filmmakers and enthusiasts alike. We are InCamera.

We have now surpassed 10,000 subscribers and are growing by 1,000 per day. We are now also monetized and receiving 1 million impressions per month – YouTube is really getting behind the channel.

Due to the quality of our content, it’s educational nature and high production values we have 4x the average CPM (what we get per 1,000 monitied views)!

Please check out the channel and let us know what you think. We would love your support in any way, shape or form!!

I very much hope to hear back from you soon.

    Thanks, Kelly

  2. Hi Alan! I saw your review on Bitter Sugar. My name is Amina Ben-Smail, I’m the co-lead. I really appreciated your take on the film! I am currently applying for an o1 visa to the US in order to be able to continue to work, but things are harder than expected with covid. For the application, interviews are super useful. Is there any way you’d like to collaborate with me on an article?

My background: I am a tunisian actress, born and raised in tunis. I studied acting at the actors studio in NYC for 3 years. I was recently co-lead on “the bunker game” a horror movie shot in italy, starring Gaia Weiss, Lorenzo Richelmy and Mark Ryder. Before that, I was lead on a tunisian film (that’s aiming to go to festivals) playing an intersex character (a first in the arab world!).

    Hope we can chat!

    Best,
    Amina

  3. Hey Alan,

My name is Alex Haughey, and I am a filmmaker with a new movie premiering at the Cinequest in a few weeks (8/21). The film is entitled Under The Influencer, and it tracks the misadventures of a successful Youtuber struggling to redefine herself outside her social media bubble. I’m including a link to the trailer. I am extremely excited with how the movie turned out, and I would love to submit the film for your review. I know you have covered Cinequest in the past. My first feature, Prodigy, played at Cinequest in 2017 and that film went on to land a Netflix deal. I think this project has what it takes to build on that success.

I spent a year as a Producer for a big Youtuber (14 mil subs), which gave me a peek behind the curtain of that world. The experience put me in a unique position to tell an authentic, hilarious, heartbreaking story set against that backdrop — raising universal questions about the very nature of identity.

The movie is playing on Monday, August 21st at 9:30pm at the Hammer Theatre Center (101 Paseo De San Antonio, San Jose, CA 95113). You are certainly welcome to join us at the show. Until then, I hope you will consider reviewing the film. Please let me know what you need from me to facilitate your process.

    Best,
    Alex Haughey

  4. Hi Alan,
Nice to meet you! We’re excited to share with you Confessions Chin Chin, a film by Carolina Perelman and Samuel Rotter, founders of Producciones Nau. Their work explores deeply human stories through bold and innovative filmmaking.
Our film recently premiered at Slamdance Film Festival in Los Angeles, and we’d love to share the trailer with you.
Amid the chaos of Madrid’s enigmatic CAZADOR bar, two queer actors and a cast of misfits navigate love, art, and survival, unveiling raw secrets in a night of passion, struggle, and self-discovery.

  5. Hi, Alan. My producing partner, R. C. Davidson, and I are both big fans of you, Chris, and Film Threat, and we feel as though we have a lot in common. We own Tahoe Film Group, and, among other things, we make funny SFF & horror videos. They’re all fairly short. We’d like to send you a short sample sometime if we could. Or, if time permits, you might check out our website and see some of our work there. Long live sci-fi fantasy & horror and all of its fans! Regards, John Royan
